Halloween can be a scary holiday and we aren’t talking about all the ghosts and goblins! Candy pops up at just about every place you visit during October. It’s taunting you at the cleaners, the hair salon and even found at the receptionist desk at the doctors office. It’s almost impossible to escape it!

Tricks for Halloween:

  1. Choose wisely. Some candies contain fewer calories than others. Lick on a lollipop, they last longer and contain only 50 calories. Chew on some Skittles, which only has 60 calories. Try a Reese’s peanut butter cup, with only 44 calories and less than 3 grams of fat.
  2. Everything counts. Just because it’s a snack-size candy bar it still counts. Record this on your food log as one of your two treat allotment.
  3. Change your mindset. Just because you’ve been “good” doesn’t mean you deserve a reward. Tat type of mindset can backfire, especially if the reward is candy.
  4. Step away from the candy dish. Next time you find yourself at the store, office, school or hair salon step away from the candy dish. The sooner these tasty treats are out of reach and out of sight the more likely you are to resist temptation.
  5. Remember candy isn’t going to disappear. Remind yourself candy is available all year round. This will keep you from loading up on fun size Halloween treats, because candy will always be there.
