“I was a patient of yours 4 or 5 years ago. I was big time underweight from breastfeeding/running too much/not fueling my body properly. I had amenorrhea post 2 healthy pregnancies, so our goal was to get me to a healthy weight in the hopes my fertility would return. I just wanted to let you know that with your suggestions, I did gain about 10 lbs! It took me a few years to have the weight really stick, and also really detach from any old eating habits of eating too little. My period also didn’t return even with the weight gain, so I finally had an exploratory surgery of my uterus to check it out, and was told my uterus looked like a post-menopausal woman, and my cycle would very likely never return. Ups and downs over the last 2 years have been managing early onset osteoporosis (brought on primarily by Celiac disease which left me severely malnourished when younger, but made worse by amenorrhea), and trying various hormone therapies.  Finally, this last year I slowed down a lot, still exercising, but running just once a week, and mostly doing slower strength exercises like barre class or Pilates, and I feel the strongest I’ve ever felt and my period finally returned! I still pack my lunches ahead most days to make sure I’m not going long without food, and I make sure I get enough fat and protein each day.

“About five years ago, my physician referred me to Wendy Crump for help with weight loss. I had tried many different ways to lose weight without much success. Wendy immediately developed a customized eating plan for me. She also encouraged me to begin an exercise program. Because I was recovering from a broken foot, I was not confident about exercising. Wendy referred me to a physical therapist for a few weeks of supervised exercise (“exercising training”).
